As a Senior Data Engineer for Penn Interactive, you will drive deliverables to completion with hands-on development responsibilities, and partner with the Lead Data Engineer to provide thought leadership and innovation with those deliverables. We are looking for someone who is capable of contributing to the design, scaling, development of ELT pipelines, stream processing solutions, and data APIs to create a world class data-centric product experience.  We want to build tools and utilities to make the Barstool Sportsbook & Casino more fun and engaging for our users while at the same time creating industry leading tooling around responsible gaming to keep our users safe!

Your daily responsibilities include

  • Craft and build reusable components, frameworks and libraries at scale to support analytics products
  • Design and implement product features in collaboration with business and Technology business partners
  • Identify and tackle issues concerning data management to improve data quality
  • Clean, prepare and optimize data for ingestion and consumption
  • Collaborate on the implementation of new data management projects and re-structure of the current data architecture
  • Implement automated workflows and routines using workflow scheduling tools
  • Build continuous integration, test-driven development and production deployment frameworks
  • Together with the team, review design, code, test plans and dataset implementation performed by other data engineers in support of maintaining data engineering standards
  • Analyze and profile data for designing scalable solutions
  • Improve the foundations of our streaming data capabilities
  • Write and maintain Terraform to safely deploy tools and services
  • Solve data issues and perform root cause analysis to proactively resolve product and operational issues
  • Develop architecture and design patterns to process and store high volume data sets
  • Participate in an Agile / Scrum methodology to deliver high - quality software releases every 2 weeks through Sprints
  • Serve as a mentor to fellow Jr. Data Engineers and Data Engineers, Business Intelligence team and business stakeholders as needed


  • 6+ years professional experience as a Data Engineer
  • Experience in software engineering or operations in a full-stack development environment
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL
  • Experience with Airflow or similar tools
  • Experience with DBT or similar tools
  • Experience with API integration to automate business processes, and enhance the sharing and embedding of data between various applications and systems
  • Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS (eg. Redshift, Lambda, Glue, Kinesis, DynamoDB, S3, etc.)
  • Experience provisioning services using Docker, Kubernetes with Terraform, Cloudwatch, GitHub, etc.
  • Ability to convert complex problems into concrete requirements and build innovative solutions
  • Ability to communicate clearly, efficiently, and empathetically with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Bonus: Experience in any of Tableau, Mode, Datadog, Looker, ThoughtSpot, etc.
